Movie time!

Just got home from Wal-mart. I ran up there yesterday to print my book photo for my scrap page and being the complete idiot that I am known to be on occasion, forgot that I had cleared my camera card. *sigh*

Anyways, I was on my way out and decided to stop and see what Redbox had to offer. I ended up choosing The Lovely Bones and An Education. I read The Lovely Bones forever ago and wanted to see it when it first came out in theaters but never made it. I also had mixed views on it. It was either gonna be a really good movie, or a horribly bad one. I'm a big fan of all of the actors and I lovelovelove Saoirse Ronan who also played in Atonement, which happens to be one of my all time favorite movies. An Education features Carey Mulligan and Rosmund Pike who both starred in Pride & Prejudice, which is, you guessed it, another one of my all time favorite movies.

It's a win-win situation. So I'm off to veg for a while and watch some movies and possibly finish my scrap page.

I've got Musculo-Skeletal class all weekend when really I should be in Louisville at the Derby.
C'est la vie.

Quick & Easy Hashbrown Casserole

Thursday night we got home from work and couldn't decide on what to make for dinner. We ended up with hashbrown casserole and burgers for Mom & Bill and a veggie burger for me. Anyways, here's the recipe for the casserole.

One small block of Velveeta (or any other type of cheese that melts well)
Frozen hashbrowns
One small onion

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Oh yeah, and some milk.

Cube up the Velveeta and place in a pan on the stove. Add some milk and cook on low to medium, stirring every few minutes. You don't want the milk to scorch or the cheese to burn. Yuck!

Eventually, it will look like this.

Empty the hashbrowns into an oven safe crock.

Pour the melted cheese over the hasbrowns and mix until combined.

The onion is optional. I know a lot of people don't like them. I'm not crazy about them either but they really make this dish.

Bake in the oven for about 30-40 minutes. Just keep an eye on it. I accidentally spilled some cheese on the rim and the lid ended up getting stuck to the crock while it was baking. I had to get a knife and pry it off. Add salt and/or pepper to taste. And be careful! The cheese will be hot hot hot!

I ordered these little gems and they came in today. I can't wait to start using them.

My little veggie burger looks so lonely. I added some (ok, a LOT) of the creole seasoning before slapping it on the grill. It smelled so good.

I'm a bit of a burger snob. Ketchup, mustard, mayo, lettuce and two slices of cheese. And I like my bun toasted. I call my burgers doubler fisters because you usually need two hands to eat them.

You can't see it cause my hand and the burger is in the way but there's a huge smear of ketchup and mustard on the other side of the plate. Everything was oh so good!

The Key is Moderation

English Toffee with Dark Chocolate and Toasted Pecans

Mother's Day is just right around the corner and I'm pretty sure that any Mom would say no to these!

Shop Kaelah's Closet

Yesterday I scored this awesome little dress from Kaelah. For $15! Squeeee!!! I can't wait until it gets here and I can try it on. She's doing her art intern at Bust magazine in NYC for the summer and she's trying to get rid of some of her clothes before she heads up there. You can find her post about Kaelah's Closet here or check out the goods here.

A Work in Progress

First and foremost, let me apologize for the photos. I took them late last night and the light was obviously less than perfect. With that being said, on with the show.

I checked out the March/April issue of Creating Keepsakes from my local library. I hate to say it but out of every issue, I usually only find one or two layouts that I end up liking. Most of the others just aren't me. I found My Other Passion on page 81 created by Jen Jockisch and immediately wanted to try it. It's bright, it's colorful and it's about one of my passions as well... books! Jen's layout was done in 12x12 but I decided to do mine in 8.5x11.

It all started with some 1" round punches of various colored cardstock and paper.

Jen's background is solid white and I wanted to incorporate books into mine. I opened Word and using the CK Alis Hand font, I added books I've read until I filled the page. I then printed it out on bright white cardstock.

I know I've read a lot of books but I didn't realize how much once I started listing them. This page is about a quarter of the amount of books I've read. Or ones that I have listed on Goodreads.

Once the cardstock was printed I trimmed about 1/4" off each side and about 1/2" off the top and bottom and I also rounded each corner. I decided to use black textured cardstock as my background and cut that down to 8.5x11. I then glued my text page onto my background.

I played around with the positioning of the circles until they all seemed to fit. I then took a photo so I could remember where each one went once I started gluing them down.

Jen had her circles all down the left hand side. I tried this at first and wasn't pleased with the way it looked. (I'm also using smaller circles than she did.) So in the end I decided on a cluster in the bottom left hand corner. It frees up some more space for me to use.

I'm still waiting on a Cricut. Maybe I'll get one for my birthday next month. The only thing I would really like it for is to do letters. Anyways, since I am Circutless I found some stickers that have been kicking around for a while. The were all different colors so I grabbed my trusty old black Sharpie and went to town. These ended up in the top left hand corner.

And so we have our finished-for-now product. This last photo looks so much better than the others. I took it outside this morning in natural light. I still have to take a photo of some of my books and I'll add some journaling as well.

I'll keep you guys posted.
Happy Hump Day!

Knitandcurl was kind enough to feature my Seychelles Necklace as part of her Mermaid Lagoon treasury on Etsy! I love the colors and all of the items. It makes me miss home like crazy!

Pack Your Bags

Dear Europe,
Even though we've never met, I'm fairly certain I've fallen in love with you. One day we will meet.
Yours,
